Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky denies asserts that the city of Bakhmut has tumbled to Russian powers, representative Sergiy Nykyforov said Sunday.
When asked by reporters whether he thought the city was still under Kyiv's control and whether he thought Russia had taken it, Zelensky replied, "I think no."
Later, his office told CNN that the president was specifically referring to Russia's claim.
Nykyforov stated, "The president has denied Bakhmut has been taken over."
During his appearance with US President Joe Biden at the G7 summit in Hiroshima, Japan, Zelensky also mentioned the city, and the two of them later met one-on-one.
"Nothing is there. They obliterated everything. There are no structures. Zelensky stated, "It's a pity and a tragedy, but for the time being Bakhmut is only in our hearts."
The Ukrainian chief likewise said thanks to his country's warriors in Bakhmut, saying "we value them for their extraordinary work."
