The Foreign Office (FO) reported on Saturday that a fire at a hotel in Saudi Arabia's Makkah city resulted in the deaths of eight Pakistanis and the injuries of six others.
The FO said in a statement today, "We have reports of eight deaths and six Pakistanis injured in an unfortunate fire incident in a hotel in Makkah."
It continued, "Our Mission in Jeddah is in contact with local authorities to provide victims and their families with relief."
State-run Radio Pakistan reported that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed profound grief regarding the Pakistani pilgrims' passing.
In addition, it stated that the premier offered his condolences to the families of the deceased.
Radio Pakistan claims that PM Shehbaz instructed the Ministry of Religious Affairs to help the families of the deceased and to provide the best medical care for the injured.
In a separate statement, Governor Kamran Tessori of Sindh expressed his sympathy and stated that he stood "with the bereaved families in this moment of grief."
